This is for those folks (me included) who maybe don’t have the strongest computer for gaming and perhaps to a lesser degree, those of you who do.

RTA models are traditionally quite ‘heavy’, that is to say a high polygon count. A circle is simply a series of points at a constant radius from the centre. The more points you can fit, the smoother the circle appears. It is the same with mesh models. In terms of a single image, think of it as SCS being 600dpi and RTA models are 1200dpi. However, the more information stored in the model, the larger the .pmg file.

Both ATS and ETS2 are ‘shackled’ by some system settings that were introduced from the start because the game is mainly aimed at the mid to high end machines. The lowest common denominator wins. When the game loads anything there is 22Mb allocated for each resource. The game will happily load resources bigger than that, but it will throw an error in the game.log everytime this happens. And it happens every time the truck loads, either after an upgrade, or quick-travelling to another garage, and also at the start of the game.

But more importantly, the information below can actually speed up the loading of the game. I’ll use ATS as an example, but it works for ETS2 the same way.

At Steam, RMB on the game’s title in your library, and select Properties. In the Launch Options text box, if it’s empty, put:
      -mm_max_resource_size 66 -mm_max_tmp_buffers_size 726
If there’s something existing in the Launch  Options, make sure you put a space after that before pasting the new info.

The first -mm_max statement increases the ‘allowable’ resource size. It means the game won’t throw warnings about resource size at runtime until the pmg file exceeds 66Mb. I think all of RTA models are smaller than that? This number may help boost fps too. The maximum this number can be is 100.

The second -mm_max statement is used to calculate the number of loading buffers the game uses. Essentially, how many ‘things’ it loads at once.
The formula is: the second statement value divided by the first stement value, minus 1. So in my case above, 726/66=11-1=10
Look at your game.log. Near the top just after the system check there’s a line that says this:
[mem] Allocated 5 temporary loading buffer(s)
because SCS default values for these statements deliver 5, using the above statements will double that number and the game will load 10 resources at once.
The maximum this number can be is 1000.

Anyway, I shared this on the old forum some time ago and it’s gone now, so I shared it here again in case folks didn’t know.
Even when vanilla gaming on a new profile, it still helps.
Let me know what you find if you use this tip.

          Personnaly, i’m using:

          -mm_pool_size 8192 -mm_max_resource_size 100 -mm_max_tmp_buffers_size 1000 -nointro

          8192 because i have 16Gb of RAM.

And i changed my config.cfg with:

          uset r_buffer_page_size “30”

          Around 250 mods for 20Gb.

          No crash.
